Introduction
Throughout
the history, researchers have made amazing contribution to the school of
psychology. One of these was jean Piaget and his theory on cognitive
development.Jean Piaget, the Swiss biologist, philosopher, psychologist, and
educationist, is regarded as one of the most important child development
researchers of modern times (Hamachek1979). However, historically cognitive
development theory has been studied in a variety of ways. Yet Piaget was the
first one to formulate the theory of cognitive development. Moreover, he was Very
interested in knowledge and how children come to know their world. Therefore,
he developed his theory of cognitive development by actually observing children
behaviors.The term cognitive means knowing or understanding.On the other hand,
cognitive development can be referred as mental development including
intelligence and complementary or component as perceiving, recognizing,
recalling, and interpreting information, as well as form of reasoning. Piaget
was very interested in knowledge and how children come to know their world.
Furthermore, this paper will be discussing about the Jean Piaget
theory of cognitive development with detailed aspects, relationship between the
different development stages and learning of his theory and also the
application of the theory to the classroom teaching.
